Silverlon® Wound Care dressings should be sized to fit into the wound bed and up onto ½″ (one-half inch) of normal skin around the wound. (The Silverlon® dressing should last for up to 7 days if properly cared for as described below).
A secondary cover dressing of choice to be placed over the Silverlon® dressing. Use tape, self stick gauze, tubular stretch knit or compressive wrap dressings to hold the Silverlon® dressing in place.
Clean water for daily rinsing of Silverlon®. Your caregiver may have given you saline or sterile water for rinsing out your wound, if so, use it for your wound and not for the dressing.
Optional: For heavily draining wounds, wound cleansers may be considered, such as Shur -Clens®, Saf – Clens®, Curasol®, Dermagran®, or Biolex®.
Your goal is to keep your wound and the Silverlon® dressing clean, moist, and covered. Recommend washing hands with warm water and soap before and after dressing change. The Silverlon® may be worn while showering unless otherwise directed by your physician or nurse. Please check with physician or nurse for exact showering directions. Soaking in a bathtub is not recommended.
General Considerations During UseDo not use saline solutions directly on Silverlon®, as the chloride ion inhibits silver ion release.
Daily soaking and spraying with wound cleansers (optional, as listed above) may help remove wound debris and extend the life of the Silverlon® dressing.
Remove and dispose of the outer absorbent cover dressings.
Gently remove Silverlon®, if any sticking occurs see warning instructions below.
Rinse Silverlon® thoroughly with clean water being sure to rinse away any exudate that maybe on the dressing (You may stretch the dressing by its corners to open up its weave to help loosen the exudate from the cloth), gently squeeze out excess water, and reapply to wound while moist.
Apply fresh cover dressings as per instructed by your physician or nurse.
