Guidelines for Prevention of Intravascular Catheter Infections

CRBSI (catheter-related bloodstream infections) are caused by the migration of skin organisms at the insertion site of an IV or Catheter. Silverlon® IV/Catheter Dressings can reduce CRSBI when they are applied immediately following insertion of the catheter. The Silverlon® IV/Catheter Lifesaver™ Dressing provides a sustained release of silver ions directly into and around the catheter insertion site, attacking bacteria and fungi that may have been introduced during insertion.

Silverlon® LIfesaver™ Ag IV /Catheter Dressings are exclusively distributed by Alliance Medical. For ordering information, please contact Alliance Medical at (800) 862-4446 or visit their website at: www.alliancemedical.org

Silverlon® Compared to Chlorahexidine Gluconate (Biopatch®) 1
  • Silverlon®’s antimicrobial activity is not pH dependent. The Biopatch® is pH dependent, and it’s efficacy varies outside a pH range 5.5 - 7.0. (wound exudate, excessive moisture, dry skin)
  • Silverlon®’s ions diffuse beyond the area of contact. The Biopatch is a contact kill, and it’s activity is diminished when it becomes diluted (cidal to static)
  • Silverlon® is safe and hypoallergenic, with no reported hypersensitivity reactions, contact dermatitis or anaphylactic reactions. The Biopatch was listed in the FDA Public Health Notice (3/11/98) for potential hypersensitivity reactions and should be used with caution on neonates.
