Advanced Antimicrobial Wound Protection

Silverlon® Surgical Dressings are the safest and most powerful antimicrobial surgical barrier wound dressings available, and should be placed in primary contact with the surgical incision.

All Silverlon® Surgical Dressings are composed of a wound contact layer of Silverlon® and an absorbency pad. Silverlon® Pad Dressings have a patent pending backing layer of perforated polyurethane film that allows moisture to be released from or added to the absorbency pad for non adherence and easy inspection. Silverlon® Island Dressings have a 2 inch of tape border. In both cases, the Silverlon® wound contact layer provides an antimicrobial barrier to all known environmental and wound pathogens.

• For external application only, remove prior to MRI scanning.
• Effectiveness could be reduced when Silverlon® is used with: betadine, antibiotic ointments, and products containing saline, chlorine, petrolatum, iodine, or hydrogen peroxide.
• Silverlon® dressings are contraindicated for patients with known sensitivity to silver or nylon.
  
  
• Silverlon® Surgical Dressings have been reported to reduce the pain from acute incisions. With less pain, some patients will have a tendency for over activity prior to stability of the wound site.

• Cleanse the surgical incision with sterile water and remove betadine and ointments.
• Activate Silverlon® by thoroughly wetting a medical sponge or telfa gauze with sterile water and pat/squeeze water onto the silver surface. If using the Island dressing, limit exposing the tape to water and dry the application skin area for better adhesion.
• Center and secure the Silverlon® Surgical Dressing (silver surface down) DIRECTLY over the surgical incision, overlapping peri wound skin by 3 cm or more.
• Additional absorptive dressings may be placed over the Silverlon® Surgical Wound Pad Dressing, and secured by conventional techniques.

The wound may be examined by gently lifting the dressing, examining the wound, and returning the same dressing if free of exudates. Moisture may be added to reduce adherence and facilitate inspection. Replace dressing if blood saturated. For optimal results, maintain primary contact with a clean, moist dressing.

Additional surgical wound dressing changes may be indicated for the following conditions:

• Dressing and/or additional covering absorptive dressings saturated with blood.
• Dressing coated with exudates or wound debris.
• Systemic body temperature elevation greater that 102^o F x 2 consecutive (4 hour interval).
• Purulent drainage from the wound site.
• Odor from the wound site.

Using professional discretion, as noted above, the last dressing change should be at discharge.

• To remove, gently lift the dressing from the wound surface. If adhering to the wound, re-saturate the dressing with sterile water from the perforated backing layer side (white side).
• Replace initial dressing with another Silverlon® Surgical Island Dressing to preserve barrier.
• This dressing may stay in place until office follow up or suture removal.
  (7 to 14 days post discharge per physician protocol)

This moisture control construction also helps doctors, nurses, and patients in many Surgical Applications where exudate, blood, and fluid leakage needs to be managed antimicrobially. The Island Dressings moisture control construction help create the wound healing environment essential for the healing of Pressure Ulcers, Surgical Incisions, Skin Graft Donor Sites, and Partial & Full Thickness Wounds.
