Silverlon® Burn Dressings![]() Burn Care Product Descriptions |

The Silverlon® Family of Burn Dressings provide:
For Silverlon® Burn Care Products to be effective and non-adhering, the dressings must remain moist. Sterile Water is recommended as the wetting agent. The chloride ion in normal saline reacts with metallic silver to form a precipitate of silver chloride on the metallic silver surface and subsequently reduces the number of silver ions released. Silverlon® has been shown to release in vitro silver ions for up to twelve days, however when applied to clinical burns and wounds, the longevity of the Silverlon® Burn Care Products depends upon the amount of exudates and cellular debris that cover the silver plated fibers of the fabric. When the silver coated fibers become covered, silver ions are not released and the antimicrobial efficiency decreases.
Silverlon® Burn Contact Dressing |
|
Product Description:
Silverlon® Burn Contact Dressings are broad spectrum 7 day use antimicrobial barrier dressings. The surface of the nylon-based dressing is plated with pure metallic silver, which is the source of the antimicrobial silver ion. The silver ions disassociate from the surface of the dressing in the presence of moisture. Silver ion release rates are maintained by maintaining the moisture content of the burn and wound dressing.
Silverlon® Burn Contact Dressings are composed of knitted fabrics that are flexible, minimally adhering, and antimicrobial. The knitted fabric is composed of pure nylon base fibers, 100% covered, uniformly and circumferentially with a thin coat of pure metallic silver approximately (4/100,000 inch). The circumferential platting of the fibers results in a three-dimensional surface area of pure metallic silver in contact with the wound fluids. Analysis of the surface of Silverlon® reveals 99.1% pure metallic silver and 0.9% silver oxide. The open knit pattern of the fabric permits passage of oxygen and fluids to and from the wound surface. The silver provides the effective antimicrobial action of the dressing and functions as an antimicrobial barrier.
